Another step forward....kinda

Yea! The Visa folks have issued the request for a medical, 'course that was last week...Little Bear had a cold/ear infection so nope...Dr. wouldn't sign off. Sooooo a week of antibiotics, if he is better by Friday MAYBE the Dr. will sign off? Who knows. I hope it works and that we go get him soon the boss is already trying to give away my job...I mean find a mat. leave replacement for me. :) To my American friends- I am extremely grateful that I get a whole 6 months of maternity leave-how awesome is that!?!?! To my Canadian friends-WTF kind of prejudice is this- I only get 1/2 the time that a birth mother gets? no wonder I am so mixed up-I don't know whether to be elated or pissed off and "gipped" feeling.

I am still holding out for the best Christmas present EVER!!!

I want to kiss these lips people!!!!! How cute are they!?!?!?

You should get 9 months of EI, but maybe you're talking about what your employer will allow?? I wouldn't want you to miss out on the extra 3 months if you could have it off. A

Yes, unfortunately my employer will only allow for 6 months...sad isn't it? I try to advocate every year (if not for myself, then to help those who follow after me) but get shot down every time. Thanks though!

Well that's good, it's progress...but seriously 6 months, boo to your employer, they suck! I took my 9 months and then took another 3 even though it wasn't paid, but it was worth penny pinching to be home!

Absolutely precious lips. That is definitely a step forward. Seriously..6 months?? Is that legal even? Boo to your employer!

Yaay for 6 months of maternity leave and I'm sorry you don't get the max. They have it all screwed up. You should get more leave because your baby needs that extra bonding time. Honestly, recovery from childbirth is pretty quick (6 weeks with the 1st and 2 weeks with the second child for me). The rest of the time given is really all for bonding! I will start researching studies for you to further hone your point :-)

I hope lil Bear is coming home soon!

I agree with Mary - don't they have to give you 9 months???

I would check into that if I were you!

And yes, those lips are adorable!

You should be getting more than 6 months. I believe maternity leave is 15 weeks (which only biological mothers are eligible for) and parental leave is 35 weeks which all parents are eligible for(biological or adoptive, mother or father) and can be shared between the two parents, or one parent can use all of it. My understanding is that the employer doesn't have a say in that. You might want to check it out.

Those lips are absolutely adorable! I can see how you'd want to kiss them! Hopefully you get the medical signed soon!

Hi there. Your employer is required by law to grant you 35 weeks' parental leave, during which time you can collect EI benefits. The employer is not required to top up your salary during that time or provide other benefits, but you are legally entitled to the leave. I can't think of a situation in which an employer in Canada would be exempt from that obligation.

Good to know that legally they can't NOT give me the time....I need to look into this some more and see why I am getting so much pressure then to be back at work by a certain date. THanks everyone!

Love those lips!
And I agree with the others- you should be given the 35 weeks. My hubby has taken his 35 weeks and I can't imagine life if we hadn't done this! All the best with getting this all figured out!
And come on medical!!
